Hubpages is another of my latest 'tricks' on how to earn money online; this time I'm actually doing pretty well.

Like Squidoo, Hubpages allows you to create articles and earn revenue from them - the cool thing about Hubpages is that it allows you to link your own Adsense account to Hubpages and therefore you gain a share of the Adsense income - as you build up referrals etc you then get a percentage of their income too.

Out of all the writing sites it's probably the one that you're most likely to make a decent income.

**UPDATE**

I've really been working hard to make Squidoo work - and it looks like it will pay off soon. I've got a couple of Lenses in the top 20,000 which means they'll earn a couple of dollars a month - one of my Lenses is in the top 2,000 - so this will earn about $12 a month. In addition, as I promote them more, there's a potential to earn more through the 'affiliates' that I have added.

Here are some examples of my best Lenses - the ones that will earn me money...

-My Global Warming Lens - a useful technique I found it to use a 'duel' module - thus you'll get people 'arguing' on your Lens and get more visits - this Lens is my best so far and will earn $12 a month.

-Add widgets to a Lens or Blog - this is another successful Lens as it shows other people how to add cool 'widgets' to their Lens - the same process can be used on other blogs too.

-Amateur Poetry - is my most successful Lens which doesn't have a duel module - I constantly update it and this goes a long way to getting additional traffic.

OK this seems to work - I've done 13 legitimate searches (including one where I spelt the URL incorrectly and the search engine automatically came up) and I've earned 0.22 pounds or about $0.40. I'm going to do all my searching on here - get to the 20 GBP minimum and see if they actually pay though paypal!

OK this is a new one for me. With the advent of Internet Explorer 7 you arfe able to use different default search engines.

This program lets you earn as you search. You can:
-change your home page to this search enging.
-change the search 'box' on the top of IE7 to this search engine.

So far it seems good - I have used it to search for quite a few things and get decent results. I'm not sure if there is 'spyware' included, but it doesn't seem to have any so far.

You can make about $30 a month (or more if you can get all your friends to use it too) and the payment is into Paypal so it's an international program.

Seems easy to use and requires no effort - just don't forget to do all your searching with it! Good Luck

Well the site I used 'Squidoo' is a new an interesting site that allows you to blog but then takes a lot of the hassle of trying to add 'adsense', ebay affiliations, amazon affiliations etc to the site. **UPDATE**

I must admit that this site is fun. It's very easy to setup a 'blog' and does all the hard work of adding sale items and Google ads. It is pretty easy to make a nice looking blog, and you also potentially can earn a lot of money on here.

So far I haven't had many hits so I don't expect much revenue for a while - but hopefully as I build my 'Lens' they'll become more popular and ultimately earn some revenue.

OK this is a new one for me. It's like a blog, but it allows you to add 'ebay' links, amazon products etc without having to sign up for their affiliate programs. You also get to share in the entire sites Adsense revenues.

I guess it saves a lot of work, and although they take 50% (including a 5% charity donation) of your revenue, it does save a lot of work and time and also produces a very professional looking page. I've create a 'lens' with one entry - I will update any stats as I go, but take a look by clicking below:

**Final Update**

So was it worth $50? Well so far I've earned 0.15c in a week so at this rate I'll get my money back in about 6 years. However, saying that - I have received about 14 reviews on my site and had some very good feedback - so much so that I actually amended my site several times.

So it's a subjective 'value' - in terms of revenue building, there isn't much, but in terms of positive feedback it's priceless....so I'm happy with my $50 investment....

**Bigger Update**

OK so I went for it - for a one of $50 payment I felt it was worth it. Here's my reasoning:
-I get some useful 'reviews' on other share programs.
-I hope to get some useful reviews and tips for my own site - so far only one review but this should build over time.
-I will get $0.15 for each 'free ' referral - go on join up - you can earn the same too - so I hope to recover the $50 eventually!
-Most of the sites seem to be blogs, so it's a great way for me to 'network' as I can add comments to these sites, and also review these sites - should be able to increase traffic a lot.

Time will tell if the $50 was worth it....

**SLIGHT UPDATE**

The benefit of referring other people to your site (as a 'free' member) is that you will be featured 'prominently' on their front page when they log on etc. Not a huge benefit, but as referrals build up (5 levels) then the potential of more traffic is great.

There are more benefits for a paid member (including referral bonuses (0.10c per referral, and a proportion of paid members - it's a one off $50 charge - I'm not sure whether I will join yet!

Eureka - I think I've found a decent site!

A lot of the 'click share' programs I've joined don't really send you decent traffic - essentially, there's a bunch of site owners clicking through sites to get clicks to their own site.

Linkreferral is a little different - the main difference is that to get the full benefit out of the site, you acutally review 5 sites a day - this means that you'll actually read the site and find out useful and fun stuff - the quality of sites and diversity is pretty good.

Each day you have to visit 30 sites, review 5 sites, add one site as a favorite and enter one forum entry. This makes the site far more interactive, and makes you actually look at the sites, rather than just waiting for a timer to count down.

As a member you can begin to earn from referalls etc - I'm not quite sure the benefit of referring users when you're a free member but will update this as I use the site....

Adbrite

Adbrite is another site that allows you to 'advertise' and earn revenues on your website. Advertisers offer a 'pay-per-click' amount to advertise on your website - you can automatically accept these or manually approve.

Most of the advertising comes in the form of a banner (See my banner on my main blog here)

So far it seems pretty good - I have one advertiser showing on my site but hope to increase this over time. The advertising seems professional and hopefully will therefore attract 'clicks' - interesting point, the first add that appeared on my site appealed to me, so I clicked it - I normally don't click any advertising!

Additionally, in a similar way to chitika.com (See blog notes here) you can add contextual 'links' to your website. In a similar manner, you add some code (I put it as the last gadget on my other blog) and Adbrite automatically adds some links. They seem to be all bunched at the top of the blog though, and aren't that contextual.

Time will tell if this is more successful than Adsense...so far Adsense hasn't been a huge success....

I just joined a new program (for me). So far there doesn't seem to be many 'articles' to sell, and therefore I'm concentrating on gaining a downline! There is no fee to join, and you can begin to build your own downline immedietly.

The idea is that you earn money by selling 'articles' - you also earn money from your downline selling the same article.

So far I suspect this is more a way of getting 'email' addresses. TIP: when signing up to any of these programs, always use an email address that isn't your main one - thus if you get a lot of spam, then you won't worry! I use a special hotmail address I have set up!

I don't expect this to earn me any revenue, but I may be wrong - I'll update as I go!

RoyalSurf is another ‘traffic’ exchange site. It is similar to TS25 in several ways:

-You view other website while waiting for a ‘counter’ to count down (only 10 seconds) – you then have to match symbols to go to the next screen.
-You gain clicks to your own website based on the number of websites you visit.
-You gain bonuses as you surf (extra hits etc.)
-You can earn money as you surf (not sure what you can do with this so far – looks like you can buy hits etc.) – it looks like this is real cash (I’ve earned $0.11 in one day) but I cannot find out how to get my money!!).
-You will automatically be entered into monthly contests based on your surfing and your referrals surfing (the current prize is a $200 gas gift card)
-You get to play games as you surf – these are fairly rudimentary but fun – these in combination with some of the bonuses allow you to get extra hits, increase your surf ratio etc. It does serve to add a little ‘extra’ making it less boring!

Royalsurf allows you to setup your own websites links to be viewed in the same manner (based on the number of hits you have earned). You can also set up a text link and a banner link, that appear in the ‘toolbar’.

Like most other websites like this you can earn extra credits by referring new members.

The sites that are viewed typically are the same sort of sites on all the other ‘traffic exchange’ programs – earn money on the web, get extra hits etc. However, there are a couple of gems on there so it’s worth taking a look.

My overall impression is that this site isn’t to bad, but it remains to be seen if I will get any revenues from the traffic – I’ve added a couple of unique sites so should be able to track.

Simple Cash Flow Spreadsheet (Free)

OK so this isn’t strictly a ‘money making’ opportunity (except for me perhaps! See below).

Over the years I have used many programs to try and track my own personal finances – these have ranged from shareware programs to professional programs like MS Money, While these are powerful, I have never felt they have given me exactly what I wanted. Therefore I decided to design my own simple spreadsheet.

My Cash Flow is a very simple Cash Flow spreadsheet that allows you to track all your own personal finances, and at the same time budget for the next year. I use it as a ‘daily’ reconciliation to my bank account, and also as a tool to let me know how much cash I ‘really’ have at the moment, and how much cash I will likely have in the future.

While it is not state-of-the-art, I use it daily and it is sufficient for my needs.

Therefore I am offering the spreadsheet as freeware. Simply leave me a comment with an email address and I will email you three files:

Well I have actually sold this spreadsheet on eBay in the past – while I did not make much money, it is possible that with a little work you can design applications (spreadsheets) etc and publish them on the web and make a little money on them – if anyone is into the iPhone, please feel free to convert this as an iPhone app and ‘share’ any revenues with me!!!

Brief Update

I've been on vacation for 10 days so haven't had much time to update the blog. Here's what happening:

I recieved two checks - one from Epinions.com for $120 and one from a survey site (opinion to come) for $50.

So far Chitika has earned me about $0.28 and Google AdSense has earned me $0.30.

My eBay affiliation is doing fairly well, earning me an average of $20 a month.

I have stopped ts25 as it seemed like too much work for me and I didn't see much 'payback'.

So far uPromise hasn't earned me much - I am surprised as this really is a great program - personally my own Upromise account has earned about $200 a year, and that's without the help of family and friends - if you have a young child, you'd be amazed how much you can earn over 20 years especially if you link all your friends and relatives....give it a try...see my opinion on Upromise here.

Here’s my thoughts:

I joined this site several years ago and have listed my credit cards and store cards. Without having to do anything else I have quickly amassed a couple of hundred dollars – this is without any friends joining up (you can ask your friends to sign their cards up and assign the ‘revenue’ to your kids.).

I also haven’t extensively used any of the online shopping, or other services, but can see that if you do use these then you can quickly begin to amass a lot of money! Your child(ren) don’t have to be college age for you to start – unfortunately I didn’t find this until my children were 15 so I haven’t concentrated on the site, however had this been around 15 years ago then I would have quite a lot of savings as I’ve bought a house, car etc in this time!

The good thing about the site is that once you sign up you don’t actually have to do anything – look in your grocery store and see all the items marked with a ‘upromise’ logo and you’ll realize how quickly you can build up funds.

To get full benefit you will have to sign up for a 529 account – however you don’t have to use their account – I use my own ‘states’ account. Additionally you can request a check for the proceeds, but if you don’t use the proceeds for college then there are tax issues.

Upromise is a free service, and by adding your credit, debit or grocery card means that you can begin saving money for college every time you shop at participating retailers - this is important - if you don't add your credit cards then you'll miss out on a lot of 'money'. My biggest income on this site is from gas purchases using my registered Discover card.

All in all, this is a very easy to use program, that doesn’t cost a thing but builds towards your children’s future…..

Am I making millions?

So I’ve got this blog on how to make money and get hits on the web, but does it actually work. As I’ve started to concentrate more on generating hits to my websites I have seen a significant increase in eBay affiliate earnings. Some of my other initiatives are earning a little revenue, but so far there is no traction. Hopefully as I build traffic, this will increase. (BTW I am rethinking TS25 and giving it another try. I haven't quite set up my websites so I can tell which 'site' is giving me the most revenue, but will do so soon - I figure, the more hits I get the more money I'll make)

My biggest money earners (Surveys and Epinions) do require some work, but there is a certain satisfaction about them. I particularly enjoy the surveys as some of them seem very relevant to the future – I participated in several surveys about future products and am now seeing them appear in stores.

Epinions is more of an ego boost – not only do I provide decent reviews on movies (See my website personalopinionator.blogspot.com for examples), I get paid for doing this and get my ego boosted when someone comments that I wrote a great review – it’s also interesting to see my opinions begin to pop-up on other websites.

General Stats:

Clickthru: 6,000 to 8,000 hits per month. (Requires about 1 hour per day at least plus a subscription - $15 per month).
TS25: 1,500 hits per month (Requires about 2 hours per day).
eBay (affiliate program): $10 per month (Once setup – maintains self) – this is beginning to grow!
adsense: $0.50 per month (Once setup – maintains self)
Surveys: $20 - $40 per month (About 20 minutes per day)
Epinions.com: $20 - $60 per month. (requires at least one opinion a day – 10-15 mins)

Donations, Charity and PayPal

I've seen many different sites seeking charity donations. Some show pictures of poor children or give you a story of how life is difficult being handicapped. While I am a caring person, I tend to avoid these sites as there is no real way to know if they are legitimate (aside from doing a lot of research, or seeing if the site is affiliated with a real charity.).

However, having said that....asking for money on the web, the equivalent of begging seems to be growing..and not to lose out on this revenue, please donate to me - I need to send twins to college *grin* - or at least buy myself a nice new sports car for my one hundred mile commute!

****NOTE**** The above is a tongue in cheek request - obviously I will not turn down any donations, but I am not actively seeking them - I don't feel there is a market for this type of thing, but am experimenting to see if people are generous.

I actually do have twins to send to college next year - but I am not relying on your donations to help me!! ***Don't suppose a puppy dog look would help here? It works when my daughter's use it***

Contextual Advertising

With the growing advertising market on the web, one sector that seems to have great growth potential, and thus a decent potential for personal income is contextual advertising. There are several available with Yahoo and Google providing 'ads' that change depending on your web page content. One I have recently joined seems to be pretty good.

Chitika

Chitika is a fairly new site that offers several different types of advertising.

Chitika - Premium - this behavioually targets your search engine traffic. Ot provides a 'search' engine and lists some sponsored results.

eMiniMalls - highlights products and allows for a search of products.

Multiple Product Unit (MPU)- lists multiple products

Linx - my personal favorite and the one I use. It searches your text and highlights words, linking them to other websites. (Move your mouse over the highlighted words in this blog).

While I am new to this program it does seem pretty good - I'll update as I go.

Hints and Tips

I use blogger.com and had a lot of trouble 'installing' Linx. I use a template, and while the Linx instructions state that you simply paste the Javascript code at the end of the HTML just before '/body' this doesn't work in all cases. If you have any 'widgets' on your blog, then these seem to get added to the HTML in this position and therefore the code doesn't work.

Therefore, to ensure the code works - add a Javascript widget and ensure it is the last widget - this did the trick for me!

According to the site it does work with AdSense, and I've noticed it seems to work OK! However, it's worth checking out the AdSense TOS to ensure this is a valid 'partner' site.

Word of Caution

As Linx is a 'beta' release, it does seem to provide some non-contextual links - I assume as they build their database, the referral sites will become more contextual - it remains to be seen if this is a hindrance to my own personal website - leave me a comment!

Revenues

I tend to get about 1000 clicks to my blog a month - as the blog is fairly new there's not a lot of content - however I am still earning a couple of dollars through Adsense - hopefully with the 'Linx' I will increase this revenue.

The good thing about this type of 'revenue generation' is that once it has been setup on your blog, there is no maintenance. The 'ad' company does all the work for you. So it's almost money for nothing!!!

Final Note

Initially when I started creating blogs I filled them up with icons, banners and referral links. I had a nifty 'Amazon' widget. However, what I have found is that the more there is the less revenue I get. It seems that people get turned off by 'clutter' and sites that are obviously out to get referrals and don't actually provide useful information.

Therefore I removed the clutter - added information that doesn't earn me money (see my Epinions reference) and tried to provide a lot more information. So far it seems to be working better.

Amazon, Google, Yahoo, Ebay and various other sites all have some type of referral program - used correctly these can earn you a nice little bit of revenue - however it seems the key that you make these secondary to your website and not primary!

Ts25 – while I’ve received over 2000 hits to my websites, I have worked very hard to achieve this. My one concern is that as my own websites are only viewed for 15 seconds, I really don’t get quality hits from the site – as my own ‘surfing’ consists on simply clicking a ‘number’ to get to the next website, and not really reading the contents I am going to stop using this site for a while and concentrate on Clickthru.

Epinions.com - still my most lucrative site – have asked for a $140 check to be sent, usually arrives in a week or so.

Clickthru – beginning to concentrate more on this site – as it also ‘looks’ more like a site with decent websites I feel I am getting better quality clicks through this site. I’ve been fairly successful with some of the ‘ebay’ links I have, and therefore if this continues, I know that these ‘hits’ are coming from Clickthru and not TS25.

Survey sites – I currently use two survey sites. One pays me consistently and with a little work I can earn $100 a month (have just sent for $50), another allows me to save for my children’s college. Both are very good sites and provide interesting surveys.

Hits and Money

I've been on the web several years and have made some money with sites like predictit.com, Alladvantage.com etc. As the time went by a lot of these have disappeared, however there are still a few avenues where money can be made, or where you can get additional hits to your own personal site. Here are my favorites:

Clickthru

I have been a memeber of this site for over 5 years and have had a steady stream of hits from it. There are several ways to get hits:

Surfing - for every site you visit (for 30 seconds) you get 1 'credit' - each credit can be used to send hits to your own site. While surfing you also have the chance to hit 'hotspots' that give you bonus credits. As this is a well established site, there are a lot of interesting sites to be found - not all are simply money making schemes, or hit generating sites - there are a lot of family oriented sites.

Buy hits - you can pay for hits - the more you buy the more you will get.

But Exposure - you can have 'ads' placed on the website etc.

Subscribe - you can pay to subscribe to the site. This has several advantages - you gain a daily bonus of credits (seems to range from 1 to 50) when you log on. If you surf daily, you gain 1 'referal' - for each referall you gain 5% of their credits - I find that although I have about 200 referalls only about 5 or so actually are active. You get double bonuses on hotspots.

All of the above are fairly cheap and do increase traffic to your website.

Overall the website is one of the better 'hit exchange' websites as it has a lot of websites to view.

Ebay

I started using Ebay a couple of years ago. I had a lot of 'stuff' in my attic collecting dust and couldn't be bothered to set up a garage sale. I therefore decided to sell as much as I could on eBay. With sales of videos games, movies and other junk I managed to get over $2,000 - most of this stuff would probably have rotted!

After this, I then began to design spreadsheets and see if there was a market to sell them - I've made a few dollars, but really haven't promoted them well.
I looked into a lot of 'wholesale' suppliers, but it seems that a lot of people have done the same - so it wasn't worth getting into this. From my experience, the items that seem to sell the most are home made items such as jewelry etc.

You can make a lot of money on eBay if you are prepared to work hard. You can also have fun buying 'stuff' and selling 'stuff'. There are many people who travel around all the garage sales, buy 'stuff' cheap and sell it on eBay for a profit.

I've bought a few DVDs for $0.25 and managed to sell them on ebay for $2 to $3....

Epinions

This is perhaps the most lucrative site and strangely enough I do not get any 'bonus' for referring you. Essentially it's a site that assists consumer in buying products. You, as a member can write opinions on 'millions' of items. As a member you get paid in two ways:

1) If you write 10 opinions (that are rated by other users as Somewhat Helpful or better) you get $10 - if all of the 10 opinions are rated Very Helpful you get an additional $10 - only 100 opinions a month qualify for this and therefore you can earn $200 a month.

2) Each month every opinion will gain a share of 'profits' - depending on the quality of the opinion, the item you are writing about and the number of readers (and a few other factors) you can get up to $5 or more a month for each opinion.

My advice is to join the site, read a lot of opinions to find out the criteria for a Very Helpful opinion, and then begin writing - do not copy others as you will get found out. It is hard work - I manage to write about 20 opinions a month as I also work full time - so I earn between $45 and $50 a month.

ts25

There are literally thousands of sites that offer to get you 1000s of hits to your website, but not many of these offer quality hits. Aside from Clickthru, I've joined many sites, but after a while have dropped them.

Ts25 seems to be fairly new and has a different way of working. While other sites require lots of 'referalls' to be succesful, Ts25 actually rewards surfing.

As a non paid member, you surf daily (15 seconds a site) with your aim to be on of the top 25 surfers of the week. If you do this then you are added to a syndicate.
There are currently 101 syndicates. As you surf in a syndicate, you gain bonuses from your syndicate, the syndicate below you and from a 'cumulative jackpot'.

As you continue to surf, you are able to move up syndicates (again this is based on how much you surf) therefore you can begin to earn a lot of bonuses.

I just started two weeks and got into a syndicate on my second attempt. I am in syndicate 100 and currently will get about 500 bonus hits a week. (You also get 1 hit to your website for every 5 sites you visit). I also know that next week I will be moved up to syndicate 16 (or higher) and therefore will get a higher bonus.

So far there are not that many cool sites to look at, but I am getting a lot of hits to my website - it's also kind of fun competing against other surfers.
